Anne Morrison Rabe - about & contact

Aspiring to be a children's book illustrator, Anne studied art at UC Santa Cruz and the Academy of Art in San Francisco. Life had different plans, however, so she embarked on a career in advertising, and later founded a printing business with her husband. She has utilized many creative outlets over the years - from gardening to

cooking- but has always taken photos to record events, travels and the people in her life.

Today, Anne looks at the natural, mostly botanical, world - and what others might pass by - from an unusual perspective.  Her photography verges on the abstract or painterly, an illustrative rather than literal medium.  Using an iPhone and multiple applications, her method is truly mobile, bringing an immediacy to her work that allows her to chronicle and share her unique point of view.  She uses different media on which to reproduce her photographs including aluminum, acrylic, canvas, wood, as well as paper.

In the winter of 2021, Anne's photographs along with other international artists' work, will be featured in two separate art books to be published by Jen Tough Gallery, Santa Fe, NM.  She currently has work featured in eight online juried shows through the Artist Alliance as well as another image that won the Second Place prize in the Oakland Art Association "Breaking Out" show. In 2020 Anne's photo, "Cactus in the Round" won an honorable mention in the MPAA International Mobile Photography Awards. Her image of Mexican Milkweed was utilized for the cover of the “Summer of Love” edition of Walnut Creek Magazine. Her work has been exhibited at Triton Museum, Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery, Gray Loft Gallery, Make Hang Gallery, Main Street Arts, Lindsay Dirxx Gallery, Michael Friedes Interior Design, AMFA Gallery, Artful Galleries and the U.C. Theatre Gallery. She has also shown at Sohn Fine Arts, Lenox, MA, Art on the Rocks, Marquette, Michigan, as well as other art shows and exhibits in the Bay Area and beyond. Her artwork is displayed by clients around the world including San Sebastian, Spain, Maui, Hawaii and New York City.
