Anne Morrison Rabe
About & Contact

Aspiring to be a children's book illustrator, I studied art at UC Santa Cruz and the Academy of Art in San Francisco. Life had different plans, however, so I embarked on a career in advertising, and later founded a printing business with my husband. I have utilized many creative outlets over the years - from gardening to cooking - but have always taken photos to record events, travels and the people in my life.

I look at the natural, mostly botanical, world and what others might pass by, from an unusual perspective.  My photography verges on the abstract or painterly, an illustrative rather than literal medium.  Using an iPhone and multiple applications, my method is truly mobile, bringing an immediacy to my work that allows me to chronicle and share my unique point of view.  I find creative inspiration everywhere and love the spontaneity of being able to use my phone to interpret my vision.

My work has been featured in two recently published Jen Tough Gallery art books, “Fun Size” and “Wild Lands,” as well as two issues of “Contemporary Artist” magazine.  I have shown in over 40 online and in-person juried art fairs and shows including the Superfine Art Fair, San Francisco, Art Expo New York, Jen Tough Gallery, Santa Fe, NM,  Art Santa Fe, Artist Alliance on Artsy, Gray Loft Gallery, Oakland, CA, Triton Museum, Santa Clara, CA, Marin Society of Arts, O’Hanlon Center for the Arts, Mill Valley, CA and Manhattan Arts International. My limited-edition photographs are displayed by collectors as far afield as New York, NY, Chicago, IL, San Sebastian, Spain and Maui, Hawaii.
